The inhabitants of Gran Canaria love to celebrate and go to parties.They talk about "party-days" and you will see colourful parades,and music and dance. We will in our calendar on the web-side try to give info about the current festivals,carnivals and local celebrations.

Fiesta Virgin del Carmen.

Every year at the beginning of August the area`s fishermen honor the Virgin Carmen,who will protect and bless the fishing.There are boat parades,music and fireworks .The boats are sailing from Arguineguin to Puerto de Mogan with the Virgin,and after two weeks bringing her back the same way.You can see pictures from this year`s parade.

Fiesta Virgen del Pino.

One of the most important festivals is the celebration of the "Tree-Virgin" in Teror.Teror is Gran Canaria`s religious center,and the magnificent cathedral in the center of Teror has a beautiful interior and alterpiece where you see this virgin carved in wood and painted with gold.This festival takes place in September.

Pilgrims are coming from different parts of the island to take part in this celebration.

Fiesta San Fernando.

The island`s oldest and largest folklore festival takes place in Maspalomas.This is in late May - early June every year.This festival brings people from all over Gran Canaria together,with the focus on folklore,dances and costumes.

Festival La Rama.

This is a festival to honor the forefathers.,and it takes place in Agaete.The locals pick branches up in the mountains at night and then walk in procession down to the sea where it ends with a kind of "rain-dance".

Belen Canario

Since 1983 the residents of Veneguera have celebrated the birth of Jesus with a performance and a party dominated by the history of the village.Canarian handicrafts,folklore and local food.This happens in a place they call "Cardonera de Veneguera" on December the 25th.Here the few hundred inhabitants living in Veneguera ,every Christmas,organize this performance showing the life in the past and serve samples of local food.It takes place outdoors,after sunset.
