You may have read about teh cavepeople on Gran Canaria? If you have, you ought to take the trip up in the mountains north of Aguimes to visit the cave village Barrancode Guayadeque. People actually live in these caves to day, and although they have refurnished and upgraded the caves to be nice apartments, it's fascinating to see how they have managed  it.

Even if the inhabitans often have tourists visiting, they are very hospitable and you may get to enter their cave to see how they live. And you wil be surprised how cosy it is inside, and the temperature is nice and pleasant.

You can take a walk on the manmade path along the cliffs, strolling along among cactusplants, peache and palmtrees. In the autumn you can taste the lemons and grapefruits, berries and cactusfruits. And if you didn't know, the popular way of declaring your love for someone, is now to make inscriptions on the big cactusplants. Have fun:-)

After a nice walk around the top of the cliff, you enter a cave restaurant. And off course you are hungry after the exercise and want to have a meal before heading south. You can sit outside under the grapes in the ceiling, but you ought  to take a peek inside. Several hundre meters with rooms, kitchen, wineceller and shop is to be found inside the mountain.

Further down the road on your way towards Aguimes, you visit the cave chapel. It is a strange feeling to sit on the church bench looking on the pulpit and alter made of vulcanic stone.
