There are many reasons why Gran Canaria is a popular vacation spot for many people in Europe. The most famous and best reason is of course the wonderful climate of the island.
Even if you can find some snow on the highest peaks in the winter, it is because, that the temperature is good all year, that the Norwegian Asthma and Allergy Association have apartments and a Norwegian School just here. The American scientist Dr. Thomas White More has found this area to have the best climate in the world. This was his conclusion after comparing the climate in 600 cities worldwide. The area has an average temperature of 25C. That is why among other things, many people, for health reasons, have moved here for good or spend most of the year here.
Gran Canaria is the second largest of the Canary Islands and is 1560 km2, a rich and varied island in terms of both nature and culture.
The island is located in the Atlantic ocean, so it has several "seasons" at the same time. There is a different climate in the north, east, south and west side of the island.
On the north side it is quite rough weather with strong winds. On the east side from Las Palmas and south along the coast, it is very fertile, especially up in the mountain valleys. You can drive on the steep winding roads through pure jungle, where small villages clinging everywhere with their kitchen gardens and small farms.
When you arrive at the south coast, you will meet the sun and the heat. It may well rain in Las Palmas and in the mountains in the west, while it is 35C and sun in the south.
If you rent a car and take a trip from Mogan in the south, crossing the mountains to the west coast, you will experience a wild, violent and beautiful nature. It is perhaps the island`s most barren nature, but then again different, colourful and takes your breath away, when you climb up and up accompanied by the occasional cactus.
So all in all, you understand that it is not done in one day to explore this island. We have not yet mentioned anything about what you will find of cultural sights, interesting buildings, architecture and the fascinating story of the people living in the caves in the mountains.
